Summary

Fake news, while not a new phenomenon, has thrived in the social media age. Several factors have contributed to the proliferation of fake news and misinformation in recent years, including information abundance, shortened attention spans, low critical thinking skills, and the democratisation of technology. The dangers of fake news for companies has been heightened with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in an unprecedented surge of inaccurate information in cyberspace.
